Where It All Began

From premium soil amendments and professional-grade landscaping supplies to local honey, firewood, and thoughtfully hand-selected seasonal goods, every item at The Market is chosen with intention. Quality, usefulness, and seasonality guide every decision, because the products you bring home should work hard for you and stand the test of time.

But The Market is about more than just great products. It’s about community, connection, and supporting the people who call this region home. We believe in working with local makers and small businesses, sourcing locally whenever possible, showing up for community events, and continually improving what we offer based on the needs of our neighbors. This place was built for the community, and shaped by it.

Founded by Robert Watkins of Watkins Nurseries, The Market was created from decades of hands-on experience serving homeowners, gardeners, and landscapers across Virginia. It sits on our 328-acre tree farm, land that was purchased by Watkins Nurseries in 1998 and has been at the heart of our operation ever since.

Originally, Watkins Nurseries was built to serve both retail customers and larger commercial orders. But when the original building had to be moved to accommodate the construction of Route 288, the business made the difficult decision to step away from the retail side and focus more heavily on serving landscapers and contractors.

The Market is our way of coming full circle, a return to our retail roots and a renewed commitment to the homeowners, gardeners, and families who have always been part of our story.
